LIBRARY BOARD MEETING Monday, September 16, 2024 Central Library Meeting Room 6:00 P.M. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL President Seyring called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT Theresa Seyring, President; Carole Pye, Treasurer; Jillian Bernas, John Caporale, Emily Gilbert and Amy Mueller. BOARD COMMENTS Trustee Mueller commented on the Grand Opening of the renovated second floor of the Library and thanked staff for the special event. Trustee Caporale commented on the Grand Opening of the renovated second floor of the Library. Trustee Bernas commented on the Grand Opening of the renovated second floor of the Library and the importance of inviting local officials. She thanked Director of Programs and Outreach Stephanie Driscoll for her assistance with a mental health program. Trustee Bernas highlighted the upcoming Schaumburg Township’s Historical bus tour. Trustee Gilbert commented on the Grand Opening of the renovated second floor of the Library and thanked staff for the special event. She highlighted the addition of Cantigny Park to Explore More Illinois and commented on interacting with patrons at Coffee with the Trustees. RAILS None APPROVAL OF MINUTES Trustee Bernas moved and Trustee Pye seconded that: The August 26, 2024, Library Board Meeting Minutes be approved. The motion passed unanimously. APPROVAL OF BILLS Trustee Gilbert moved and Trustee Seyring seconded that: The Library Board approve the August 2024 Bill List. TREASURER’S REPORT Trustee Pye reviewed the financial reports, noting balances in the various funds. The General Fund increased by approximately $2.6M on the balance sheet due to revenues exceeding expenses. She also highlighted a few line items, discussed why they are above or below budget, and gave an update on the status of various Library investments. Trustee Pye thanked Finance Director Beth Valenziano for her nine years of service to the Library. Trustee Bernas asked some clarifying questions. ADDITIONS OR CHANGES TO THE AGENDA There will not be an Executive Session. STUDENT ADVISORY TRUSTEE REPORT SAT Shivani Patel shared highlights from the September 2024 Student Advisory Trustee report. PRESIDENT’S REPORT Trustee Seyring commented on meeting Township of Schaumburg’s Mental Health Board (MHB) President Bob Ogilvie and Secretary MaryAnn Ogilvie, who expressed their appreciation for the Library’s services and programs. She attended Coffee with the Trustees and the Grand Opening of the renovated second floor of the Library. Trustee Seyring thanked Finance Director Beth Valenziano for assisting the Board over the past nine years. DIRECTOR’S REPORT Executive Director Miskewitch shared highlights from the September 2024 Director’s Report. She expressed her appreciation to all Library staff for their help in making the Grand Opening a success. DEPUTY DIRECTOR’S REPORT Deputy Director Scheibler shared highlights from the September 2024 Deputy Director’s and Public Services Reports. DEPARTMENT REPORT Access Services and Circulation – Director Aaron Bock Access Services and Circulation Director Aaron Bock presented an overview of the department’s newest materials, services, and upcoming projects. COMMITTEE REPORTS SAT Committee – Members Molly Scheibler and Abbey Pignatari The Committee submitted a recommendation for the new SAT position. The Committee requested consideration of three SAT positions in the future: one student from each local high school. Trustees asked some clarifying questions. Decennial Committee – Chair Seyring The Committee completed the Decennial Report and submitted it for Board approval. Facilities and Equipment Committee – Chair Jillian Bernas The next Committee meeting is on October 17, 2024, at 6:00 PM. Art Committee – Chair Theresa Seyring The Committee did not meet last month. The next meeting is on October 28, 2024, at 5:30 PM. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS Approval of SAT recommendation Trustee Bernas moved and Trustee Gilbert seconded that the Board approve Aysha Patel as the new SAT for the Schaumburg Township District Library. Approval of Payment to Cradle of Aviation Museum in the amount of $30,000 for the Arcade Exhibit Trustee Caporale moved and Trustee Mueller seconded that the Board approve payment to Cradle of Aviation Museum in the amount of $30,000 for the Arcade Exhibit.
