Sue Denys has lived in Schaumburg for 24 years. And she’s been coming to Schaumburg Library for “all 24 of those years” she said, without hesitation.
“The Library is just great,” Sue said. “It’s a lovely place. I like it here.”
And for at least 10 of her years in Schaumburg, Sue has been a part of the Lexington Green II Condominiums Book Worms – a book club that meets once a month, discussing a different book each time.
“We’ve been using the Library’s Book Club in a Bag since the group started,” Sue told us.
Book Club in a Bag gives you 10 copies of the same book, plus discussion questions to get your conversation rolling, all in an easy-to-carry tote bag. You can check the whole kit out for six weeks to be sure everyone in your book club has time to read the book before you get together.
For the Book Worms, they take turns choosing a book and leading the discussion. "We know what will get the group talking, so we like to make up our own questions,” Sue said. “But the questions that come in the kit are great for when there’s a lull in the conversation.”
“And some of the books on the list for Book Club in a Bag we never would have chosen on our own,” Sue continued.
She’s been surprised at how many nonfiction titles the Book Worms have enjoyed recently, with several leading to wonderful discussions.
Most recently, the Book Worms read This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger as part of our One Book, One Community.
“We attended the event with the author at the Prairie Center,” Sue said. “I know we’ll have a good discussion about that book.”
Classics like To Kill a Mockingbird, new bestsellers like Anxious People and nonfiction page-turners like Bad Blood (plus more than 175 other titles) are all available through our Book Club in a Bag.
