HOPE Day Center

A day resource center that provides free services to the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless. Case management, vocational counseling, mental health counseling, and supportive housing counseling are available. Referrals can be made to pro-bono doctors, dentists, lawyers. Additional services include a food pantry, hot meals, clothing closet, laundry and shower facilities, access to voicemail and a mailbox, as well as transportation services to medical appointments and job interviews. Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. except major holidays.

Food: Groceries available for those in need, who may come in once per month. Children’s clothing: Families may come twice per year to shop for new/gently used clothing (sizes infant through children’s 14/XL). Cost is $5 per child. Minor housing repairs: Assistance available. During the winter, Willow Creek is a PADS overnight site. Auto repair: Volunteer mechanics provide diagnostic inspections and car repairs. Also available: ESL and GED courses, employment services, health services (blood pressure, iron, and glucose screenings), legal services with an attorney. Hours: Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 6:30 to 8 p.m. Closed Fridays. Saturdays 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sunday 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

In conjunction with the Greater Chicago Food Depository (the food bank that serves Cook County), this is a free food market for seniors 60 years and older. You must sign in at the market, but no ID or other documents are required. Remaining 2013 schedule: June 28, July 12 and 26, Aug. 16 and 30, Sept. 13 and 27, Oct. 11 and 25, Nov. 15, Dec. 13 and 27.
